***. — Eleventh report on the demographic situation. As in previous years, the report is divided into two parts. In the first one, the situation of the French population in 1981 is examined while the second one deals, this year, with the position of France in Europe. In 1981, the average number of children per woman is 1.96, as in 1980; the average duration of life is 70.2 yfcars for men and 78.5 for women; the number of marriages fell from 417,000 in 1972 (peak year) to 315,000 in 1981.
