PENERIMAAN KHALAYAK TERHADAP TAYANGAN YOUTUBE TIRTOID TENTANG FENOMENA WAITHOOD (MELAJANG UNTUK MENUNDA PERNIKAHAN) (Studi Resepsi pada Mahasiswa UMM Subscribers YouTube TirtoID)

Tirto.id raises waithood phenomenon in YouTube view entitled “Ramai-Ramai Waithood: Melajang untuk Menunda Pernikahan”. It has various comments from viewers. The study aimed to find out the Students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) acceptance on TirtoID’s YouTube view about waithood phenomenon (melajang untuk menunda pernikahan). It used Reception Theory of Stuart Hall categorizing the meaning position into three, namely Dominant-Hegemonic Reading, Negotiated Reading, and Oppositional Reading. In addition, it was supported by Mass Media Effect Theory of De Fleur and Ball-Rokeach. It used qualitative approach using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) research method. There were eight UMM students who met certain criteria as the subjects. The result indicates that six of eight subjects are in Dominant-Hegemonic Reading meaning position, a subject is in Negotiated Reading meaning position, and one subject is in Oppositional Reading. Differences in a person’s background from individual experiences psychologically and someone who is certain social group member such as gender, education, as well religion affect them in interpreting the message in YouTube view of Tirto.id
