For space constraints, this summary focuses only on the six core chapters addressing the main research theme of my thesis: The Structure-function analysis of disaggregating chaperones and their evolution across the Tree of Life. Protein homeostasis is regulated by molecular chaperones and proteases. The apparition of the main chaperone families can be traced at least 3 billion years ago. Previous publications showed evidence that HSP20 and HSP60 already existed in the last common universal ancestor.
