Willard Galbreath Oral History Interview

Willard C. Galbreath, MPH, worked for the Broward County Health Department for over 40 years. Educated as an undergraduate at the University of Florida and as a graduate student at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Galbreath was quickly promoted from sanitarian to director of environmental health. During this oral history interview, Galbreath recalls his time working as a health administrator in Broward County and talks about his role in developing systems to enforce health-related ordinances. Galbreath also describes several areas that fell under his jurisdiction, including food inspections, migrant labor camps, sewer systems, nursing homes, and swimming pools. He also remarks on several health issues he encountered in Broward County such as lead in water, mercury in fish, mosquito-related diseases, and medical waste disposal.
