Dwight Frazier Oral History Interview

Doctor Dwight Frazier has a long history of working in Florida’s public health laboratory system. For many years, Mr. Frazier was director of Miami’s public health laboratory. After speaking about graduating with a master’s in public health at the University of Florida, Frazier discusses his early years of working in the Jacksonville lab under then-director Dr. Albert Hardy and the issue they both faced as they worked towards improving conditions of the public health laboratory system. Frazier then talks about his travels to a Korean POW camp to subdue an outbreak of various diseases and then transferring to the Miami laboratory to survey for disease outbreaks, food quality, and performing toxicological tests for local law enforcement. Afterwards, Frazier discusses his various duties during a major outbreak in Miami, and the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew and his team’s response. Frazier concludes by talking about his inspirations and various field tests he conducted as the Miami laboratory director
