International audienceThis paper deals with the automatic description of the semantics of lexical units using electronic dictionaries of synonyms. Our work is based on a continuous model of polysemy in which each meaning of a lexical unit is represented by a region in a semantic space. We show that this space can be constructed from the graph of the relation of synonymy. We assume that the cliques of the graph of synonymy represent points in the semantic space associated with a lexical unit, and we define a distance between these points which measures the relative proximity of the corresponding meanings. Preliminary results show that this method seems promising and should be considered as an interesting alternative to more classical discret...
