Feminist photography in the 1970s and 1980s as a tool for political and social change

My bachelor thesis is going to be about feminist photography of 70s and 80s of the 20th century as a tool for political and social change. At the beginning, a brief history of feminism will be presented. This part of the work will also be devoted, for example, to the reasons that led to the fact that there were not big women artists in the history of art and inequality between genders in history. After introduction into the historical context, Im going to focus on the reasons why the medium of photography is the right tool for political and social change and why this medium was used by feminist artists of the 70s and 80s. Afterwards i will focus on individual issues that the feminist artists thematized. It contains for example rape and violence against women in general, the right to decide about your own body, abortion issues, the use of pop culture to break down stereotypes, self- portrait as a tool to fight traditional image of feminity, the issue of raising girls versus boys, and the conflict between "white" and "black" feminism. The conclusion of the thesis will summarize the practical impacts of feminist art on society. Anotace Bakalářská práce se bude zabývat feministickou fotografií 70. a 80. let 20. století, která sloužila jako nástroj k politickým a společenským změnám. Na začátku bude představena stručná historie feminismu. Tato část práce bude věnována také například důvodům, které vedly k tomu, že nebyly velké ženy umělkyně v historii umění a nerovnosti mužů a žen v historii. Po uvedení do historického kontextu se práce zaměří na zdůvodnění toho, proč právě médium fotografie je tím pravým nástrojem k politické a společenské změně a proč toto umělecké médium feministické umělkyně 70. a 80. let používaly. Následně se pozornost upřena na vybrané problémy, které jednotlivé feministické umělkyně tematizovaly. K nim patří například znásilnění a vůbec násilí na ženách, právo na rozhodování o svém těle a problematiku potratu, využití popkultury k boření stereotypů, autoportrét jako prostředek boje proti tradiční představě feminity, otázka výchovy dívek versus chlapců a také konflikt "bělošského" a "černošského" feminismu.
