Wright was born in Pennsylvania in 1810 and moved to Rockville in Parke County as a young man. While he was governor, Indiana adopted a new constitution that provided for a public school system, restricted state debt, and expanded the number and term length of elected offices. It also banned African-Americans from settling in the state. Wright was U.S. minister to Prussia when he died in Berlin in 1867. He is buried in New York.Use of this image is restricted to IHS reference purposes only. IHS may not reproduce. Information is taken from the book "The Governos of Indiana," edited by Linda C.
