Lesson Description:This lesson is the third of nine lessons from the Vocational Math: Contextualized for Construction course that was taught at Madison Area Technical College. During this lesson, students work in groups to measure plywood thickness and use that measurement to do calculations (on the construction master calculator) to find products and quotients of the materials' measurements. The lesson is contextualized to focus on using the plywood stack to make shims to level a shed on a sloping driveway. The expected total time for the lesson is 75 minutes. Materials needed to complete the lesson include a stack of 7: 3/8" plywood pieces (small rectangles) per group.
