On the basis of numerical simulations the study attempted an identification of the source regions as well as the zones and structure of nighttime cold air flow-off in the Kassel area was investigated. In addition, the distribution of airborne SO_2 from different sources in the given weather conditions was investigated. The model calculations were carried out using the three-dimensional, non-hydrostatic mesoscale model FITNAH (= Flow over Irregular Terrain with Natural and Anthropogenic Heat sources).
