Portland Art Building, 1981 and 1982

Views of the Portland Art Building, 478 Fore Street. The Portland Art Building was located in the former Louis Mack scrap metal company space. A view of the building in 1965 is also visible at the left edge of this image.Created by Portland potter Larry Adlerstein, the building\u27s name painted on the outer wall read, Portland Art Building - Portland Fine Art Gallery - Maine Crafts - Portland Craft School - Portland Pottery & Supply Company. The gallery was located at the street level, and the building also included studio spaces for individual artists. Adlerstein referred to the building as a beehive of creative activity- the focus of Maine art and craft. The Portland Craft School was located on the second floor.
