Schechter, Rich Colson, Dorris Meyers. Portland Photographics began business in 1984 at 398 Fore Street, and moved to 85 York Street in 1986. Providing high-end, full-service custom photographic developing and printing, Portland Photographics was internationally known for its exhibition printing (primarily Ilford Cibachrome) and customized Ektachrome color transparencies used for publishing and archival preservation. Portfolio and exhibition clientele included Magnum Photos, Inc. (James Nachtwey, Alex Webb, Costa Manos, Susan Meiselas), National Geographic, Time Magazine, Ernst Haas, Paul Caponigro, Burk Uzzle, Todd Webb, Bill Curtsinger, Sam Abell, Sal Lopes, Carolee Pelos, and William Albert Allard. Portland Photographics printed the inaugural exhibition for the International Center of Photography\u27s new Midtown Manhattan space, in 1989. The balance of clientele included Maine\u27s L.L. Bean and G.H. Bass, along with architectural firms, commercial photographers, museums, and archives. The Portland Photographics building can be seen in the right background of this image (which has 54 York Street in the foreground.)
