Dr. Nowaihi, Dr. Namani, Mr. Horton (secretary)• 1*4800 AGENDA (enclosure 501): The agenda was considered and approved* 1.4801 MINUTES: The minutes of 24 January 1959 were read and approved. 1.4802 REPORT ON MEETING OP BOARD OP TRUSTEES: The President reported on the recent meeting of the Board of Trustees of 28 February 1959* 1.4805 CHANGE IN PROBATION POLICY: (reference Academic Council minute Ho* 21*262). The University Senate considered the recommendation of the Academic Council that students be discharged for academic reasons at the end of the academic year only and that the academic probation system be adjusted accordingly* The recommendation was returned to the Academic Council for consideration of three points: a) should student probation not always be for one academic year? b) should there be a probation-dismissal system at all? c) should more attention be given to English Language competence during the time of probation? 1.4804 UNIVERSITY CALENDAR, 1959-60 and 1960-61 ©enclosure 502): Dr* Namani presented recommendations for the University calendars of 1959-60 and 1960-61* The recommendations were approved by the Senate with minor alterations* 1*4805 COMMENCEMENT DATE: Dr* Namani proposed that in view of the shortened Ramadan schedule and the unexpected holidays it would be advisable to postpone the commencement date. The possibilities of a day for a "University Open House" and of a day for the transfer of books to the new library were raised* The matter was put into the hands of a committee composed of President McLain (chairman), Mr* Holtz, Dr* Namani, Mrs* McLain, Dr* Sheiniti, and Mr* Horton* The committee was empowered to act and was asked to consider the matter in light of the discussion concerning the University calendar and possible commencement dates
