We also have to increase our efforts to establish a stable level of corporate and individual giving after the end of the campaign, when annual giving of $1.5 - 2 million will still be needed. LONG RANGE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENTS AUC's long range planning committee is still meeting actively this year to consider where we go next in curriculum. It is still too early to tell much about the results, but the effort is important, as we will soon have space to do a few more things. The two concrete academic developments to take place in the near future are: Introduction of the Computer Science major in the fall. While not finally decided, as it is dependent upon recruitment of faculty, we have every expectation it will start. An in-service Certificate (non credit) course in project management at the graduate level - jointly offered by Engineering a~d Management - to start in the fall. Two concrete developments are also underway in adult education. Our first extension center, in Heliopolis, has been contracted for and is expected to start classes in May. An extension of DPS outside Cairo also is in future prospect with anticipated support from AID of about $2 million over 4 years. The Minister of Higher Education approved such a project in principle this week - with probable sites in Alexandria, Ismalia, Assiut, and Minya. The centers would teach English to members of faculties of education (subsidized) and to individuals (who would pay for themselves). The concept is that the centers would be self-financing in five years. As formal AID and Egyptian approval will now be needed this project may not actually be operational for another year. PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENTS AUC has experienced very difficult health problems this year. Dr. Hunsberger had a serious operation in the fall, from which he fortu­nately recovered with incredible aplomb and has renewed his superior service to AUC. More recently, Jess Duggan, our quietly efficient and universally respected librarian, has had to return to the United States for a serious cancer condition from which he would be highly fortunate to recover with the success of Dr. Hunsberger
