Absent: Mr. Hannon Reporter: Mr. Osius. 1- The agenda was approved 2- The minutes of the last meeting were approved 3- Report on building construction and renovation A) Jameel Center : It was reported that demolition work on the old structure was nearly completed and contractors had tendered bids for the building construction. Out of the seven firms that were solicited to tender their offers, only three responded. Bids were substantially higher than expected. Contractors were working on the basis of LEl.42 to $1 . The following suggestions were made: - to go back to a wider solicitation of bids, - to approach Korean contractors, - cut e floor off the building, - go to local contractors B) Hill House: Dr. Fawzi reported on the status of special portions of the building: Alumni area, student lounges, assembly room and VIP room. C) New Dormitory: From the solicited proposals, Aue selected the bid by Egyptian Architect Arnr El Alfy in cooperation with the joint venture firm by PB (Parsons-Brinkerhoof/Sabbour) to handle construction management. The qualifications of Amr El Alfy and PB Sabbour were discussed. It is estimated that the building will cost $5.1 million, $1,160.000 of which still needs to be raiseJ. A proposal to the Kresge Foundation for $ 500.000 has been submitted. The remaining amount ($500.000) is still to be procured. 4) Report on other building plans The following issues were raised: A) Building on the land assigned for new faculty apartments in Maadi, B) Prospects of buying a villa in the neighbourhood of Aue . .
