The first two options would result in dollar revenues and the latter in Egyptian pound revenues. It will have to be decided which of these options would be most effective. Along these lines, Dr. Pedersen reported that AID had agreed thnt the LE 7 million, remaining from the initial Endowment grant, need not be expended by 1985/86 and may be regarded as endowment. The visit to AID Director, Mr. McPhersen, by Mr. Hedlund and Dr. Pedersen was ' instrumental in achieving this agreement. In general, regular contact with the U.S. Government and Congress will effectively forward the University's cause and the warm reception of the President's recent letter to Senators and Representatives is an indication of this. Dr. Pedersen reported that the fund raIsIng campaign in Egypt was off to a good start. He was confident that because of the ,efforts and support of Mrs. Mubarak, Dr. Mostafa Khalil, Mr. Fuad Sultan, Mr. Niazi Mostafa, and other influential Egyptians, the campaign will be successful. Dr. Pedersen was pleased with the composition of the Egyptian Fund Raising Committees and was thankful for the help of Dr. Mostafa Khalil in forming them. The Alumni Council has also been active under the leadership of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak and Mrs. Mary Iskander. On the Library, the President reported that because the air conditioning contractor, Catrig, has been unable to meet their installation schedule, they would be replaced. The move to the new building is scheduled for June 7, 1982. On academic matters,' Dr. Pedersen reported that the GOFI project will probably be awarded to AUC and that in the coming year efforts will be made to expand training operations in the Gulf. Professor Farouk Hitami had been recommended by the faculty to chair the Management Department. Relations with the National universities continue to be good. The English Language Institute is providing intensive English language training to Tanta University. The Center for Middle East Management Training, through a protocol with the Commerce Department at Cairo University, was engaged in a variety of cooperative efforts. The Desert Development and Training project operates with assistance from many of the agricultural sc.hools, as well as the Ministry for Land Reclamation. Efforts are now underway to conclude a general agreement with the University of Alexandria. On the student side, Dr. Pedersen reported that foreign enrollment was up 33% from last year, from 416 to 625. Foreign students now make up 25% of the 2400 students enrolled. This is a good trend, but represents a certain financial vulnerability. The curren
