Y. 10017 TELEPHONE (212) 421-6320 Dear Trustees: January 7, 1975 Now that the Christmas holidays are behind us and the time of the next Board meeting is drawing close, we must begin making travel ar­rangements. Hotel - As I indicated in my letter of December 2 the University has secured reservations at the Meridien Hotel from Friday, February 14 through Sunday, February 23. Double rooms or suites have been reserved for those Trustees who have so requested. The Meridien is Cairo's newest and, reportedly, nicest hotel. It is located on the Nile about five blocks up-river from the Hilton. Again, room and board expenses of Trustees will be met by the University. Travel - The University is paying for the roundtrip travel of Trustees on a regular, economy fare basis. Such tickets are not limited as to rninim.lrn or maximum number of days, days of the week or number of s top­overs. Trustees' tickets will be purchased in Egyptian pounds in Cairo from TWA. We are using TWA because we must charge the tickets to our AID grant which requires use of American carriers. TWA is the only U. S. airline flying into Cairo. Because TWA is being paid in a non-convertible currency for Trustees' tickets, it is willing to endorse only a portion of such tickets over to . other airlines. Thus, at least the trans-Atlantic leg in each direction must be flown on TWA in the case of tickets purchased in Cairo. Connect­ing legs may be flown on other airlines. Travel agents are not eligible for commission on fares paid in Cairo, i.e., on Trustees' tickets. They are eligible on additional tickets (e .g. spouses or guests) or on extra charges (e.g. extension of ticket, up­grading to first class, etc.
