New Library President Thoron recapped the situation concerning attempts to acquire the "Two Schools Site" from the Governorate of Cairo. He summarized the progress of negotiations stressing that, considering the fact that we have been dealing with a municipal bureaucracy, considerable progress has been made. He also mentioned attempts by AID to speed up progress and indicated that such attempts had put the University at a disadvantage in the negotiations. President Thoron reported that the negotiations have reached the point where the Governorate has agreed to sell and the Univer­sity has agreed to purchase the site at a particular price; and that this price had been established by the appropriate committees of the Governorate; and that there had also been an agreement on the location of the two new replacement schools; and that the University is await­ing a letter from the Governorate which will state that the children will vacate the Secondary School as of July 1, at which time AUC will make an initial payment of either LE 25,000 or LE 50,000 to­wards the purchase price, the amount of the initial payment not having yet been settled.
