Through English language texts, articles, and professors, the students gain access to sources and approaches that are non-Egyptian. Mrs. Sanders asked if the University would have any voice in the selection of Egyptians who would corne to the University under the Ford Foundation program for staff members of Egyptian Universities. Dr. Bartlett said that AUC would select appointees in cooperation with Egyptian University officials on a basis that would satisfy Egyptian and AUC needs. Mr. Crary asked if there was a serious identity problem amOl.g Egyptian students attending an American University in CAiro. Dr. Bartlett said that although it may exist for some people, this was not a serious problem. If it were the University would not be getting students from the segments of Egyptian society currently represented at the University. Mrs. Weyerhaeuser asked how much importance should be given to the charge that Egyptians are 1 'anti-American" , President Bartlett replied that the Egyptians are too S~phisticated to take out their displeasure with official U.S. Government policy upon individual America' s ·~ Mr. Thoron drew the attention of the Board to the recent death of Dr. Douglas Horton, Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1945 to 1961. He reported that the Alumni Organization in Cairo was preparing a plaque in honor of Dr. Horton and had asked if the Trustees would wish to participate in its preparation. The Board voted to associate itself fully with these efforts to honor Dr. Horton and adopted the following resolution
