9 asked whether, given the dollar and pound uncertainties, it wouldn't be prudent to say no new additions to faculty for next year, and to stipulate that if a department gets a grant that the work should be done by existing staff and that the grant salaries thereby released be used to relieve the dollar shortage in the overall budget. President Thoron noted in this connection that there are some additions to the faculty contemplated for next year and that these relate to pre­vious commitments. He also noted that there are vacant slots which are funded by grants on the dollar side but not on the pound side (the manage­ment program, for example). Mr. Thoron noted that if the pound situation becomes difficult we may have to say that we can't meet such grant commit­ments. At this point, Mr. Payne interrupted and asked that the Board con­sider the matter of Mr. Barco's situation. A prolonged discussion followed and it was concluded that Mr. Payne, Mr . Crary, and Dr . Dirks should work out with Mr. Barco suitable arrangements . Mr. Payne said that this com­mittee must be unanimous in its recommendation . This procedure was put to a vote and all voted Yea except Mrs . Hammond and Dr. Dirks who voted Nay. The Board was generally in agreement that the positions of Vice­Chairman and Treasurer of the Board could be left vacant and that Mr. Crary should be Chairman of the Executive Committee. 4. Vice- Presidency of the University The Board voted unanimously to accept the resignation of the present Vice-President, Ahmed Abdel Ghaffar Saleh, at the age of 65, and authorized Mr .
