3- IV Income from Alumni in the Middle East Little financial help has been received from alumni and former students over the years, partly because such giving is not in the Middle East philanthropic "patternf4, but also partly, perhaps largely, because they have not been asked. Henceforth an annual support program will be promoted among this group numbering (including former students) some 1500 "reach-able" persons. This effort for this current year will take the form of a book--buying campaign. Dr. Sheniti, the new librarian, is now listing some 3000 basic books that are required in our library to make it as serviceable as it should be, and to round out certain disciplinary collections. It is estimated that the 3000 volumes will cost L.E.4500 or $12,870. This will require an average gift of L. E. 3 from each alumnus and former student. The purchase of books, if possible, will be coordinated with the conversion of Hill House, the menus hostel, into a library. This conversion will take place if $30,000 can be secured. There have been promising conversations leading to this gift. V Income from Various Sources in America A. Individual Donors Constant efforts will be maintained to increase the number of individual donors to the University, and to increase the size and frequency of their gifts. 1. The present mailing list should be cleared of known non-contributors, and should be built up by adding names both from the Cairo and American sides. 2. The list should be divided, with the better prospects for larger gifts receiving frequent, personalized mail direct from the President, postmarked Cairo. The larger list will continue to re-ceive bulletins and other occasional information from the New York office. 3. Insofar as possible, these people should be invited to functions held for the University in cities in their areas.
