E.1000, or $2,860.) C. Assistance from Foundations Recent efforts to secure general and specific financial assist-ance from Foundations will be continued and extended. The Univer-sity will not accept specific grants which would result in overhead charges unless a sufficient amount be added to the grant. to cover all such charges. (The University has recently secured a small grant, some $4,0001 from the Rockefeller Foundation for the training of an "understudy" to Dr. Creswell, the specialist in Islamic Art and Ar-chitecture; conversations have been held with the Research and Training Division of the Ford Foundation about the possible exten-sion of the research and creative work aspects of the University; the president and the assistant to the president will keep in touch with an increasing number of foundations.) D. Assistance from the United States Government Efforts will be continued to secure financial assistance from the United States Government, if such assistance will in no way jeopardize the freedom of the University or hamper in any sense the fulfillment of the University's objectives. (There has been a "continuing conversation" with both ICA and the State Department for the last six months, looking towards some kind of a support relation between the Government and the Uni-versity, The most likely result will be some kind of a scholarship program, The possibility of a permanent fund gift is also being kept before the Government.) E. Assistance from the Churches The possibility of securing support from national church organi-zations will be investigated, and efforts to secure direct contribu-tions from local churches will be continued. (It is not likely that national church organizations will commit themselves for any such support. However, it is not impos-sible to get the University included in the annual budgets of local churches— It secures general gifts of this kind now from some eight or ten local churches.
