2—Graduate Program The University through its Graduate Faculty will offer next year two Master of Arts degrees, both of which can be judged excellent. The first is that of Arabic Language and Literature, a program which can stand comparison with any of its kind. The second, planned for this coming fall, is in Sociology and Anthro-pology, a logical development from the excellence of the Social Research Center. This development has been carefully planned to meet the growing needs of the area for persons of competence in such fields. The curriculum demands that the student, whether from East or West, control languages and a body of knowledge which will allow him to communicate easily with others of similar interests. The twin criteria of need and excellence must determine the future of graduate training at the University. Given these criteria, the establishing of effective graduate programs is, like politics, the art of the possible. There are obvious needs in the Middle Last for graduate work in the fields of economics and business administration, political science and public administration, education, and English language and literature. Excellence, however, is a stern taskmaster and permits an approach dedicated to quality alone
