Dr. McLain also discussed the work of the Advisory Committee on relief activities, representative of the private foreign welfare agencies in Egypt, which the University was instrumental in estsblishin¢, and which servos as the field counterpart of the American-organized Emergency Committee for Relief to Egyptian war victims. (See summary of Dr. McLain's report in attached reprint from The Christian Evangelist.) 865 BOARD RECONVENES At 2:30 p.m. the Board reconvened, with Dr. Horton presid-ing; all Trustees listed under Minute 852 remained present and active throughout the two-day meeting of the Board (March 8 and 9). 866 ITEGOTIATIOITS WITH FORD FOUTTDATIOIT AND DEVELOP-MENTS WITH OTHER FOUNDATIONS Dr. McLain and Mr. Culbertson described briefly the status of the continuing negotiations with the Ford Foundation and the initiation of negotiations with other foundations. The Ford Foundation, it wns reported, had decided to delay its consideration of a substantial budget-support grant be-cause of the current situation in Egypt. Formal considera-tion had been scheduled for December 1956 but the University was removed from the Foundation's docket and action thus postponed shortly after the first of November when the 3- power attack against Egypt w^s nt its height. negotiations will be resumed when the extent of the University's oppor-tunity to resume its development program becomes more clear. It was reported that negotiations had been initiated with the Rockefeller Foundation for special project assistance in business administration, extension, and education, as well as for general support. It was too early, however, to re-port results. Plans were also described for the initiation of requests to other major foundations for both general and special project support. 867 CONSIDERATION'S OF BUDGE T BALANCING The Chairman referred to report of the Vice President (Minute 856). Upon motion, duly seconded, it was voted THAT the statement presented by the Vice President be ac-cepted with the understanding that the Board of Trustees is in solid collaboration with the proposals in this report, and THAT a special committee of the Board of Trustees be ap-pointed to work with the officers in carrying out these proposals
