Provinse (Ph.D., University of Chicago) be appointed Director of the Social Research Center for the period 195-56 under the initial Ford Foundation grant of $85,000; with the understanding that this appointment may be extended in the event of continuance and enlarge-ment of the Center. 10. THAT the Committee on Education is aware of an increasing number of visitors in the area of Cairo during the summer months, and is conscious of the importance that the University make some adjustment in its program to establish coverage on the grounds by responsible persons during the entire vacation period. 11. THAT the Board consider in plenary session the two questions of hew to implement its concern, as stated in the by-laws, for (a) the Christian program of the University, and (b) the development and utilization of spiritual resources, for example, Dr. Watson's prayer group. 12. THAT the Board of Trustees adopt the following Minute: The Committee on Education records once again the importance of the Social Research Center to the University, and re-affirms its approval of th:; Ln-=` larged scope of the Research Conter as set forth in the revised budget herewith attached. It expresses its deep gratitude to The Ford Foundation for the indication of its willingness to support this expanded program. In line with the traditional policy of the Board of Trustees to develop a strong university for the Near East area, the Committee recommends that tho Board of Trustees continue the program initiated under this grant as a permanent unit of the University and declare its intention to make every effort to carry on the function of the Center indefinitely, or as long as the need for it exists. The eventual decision as to the scope and activ-ities of the Center will necessarily depend upon the Board's success in finding the resources to maintain this program. 13. THAT the Board, as requested by Council, confirm the provisional approval of agreements made with the American College for Girls for the joint pro-gram at the College and the F.A. & S. leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, a portion of the University's suburban land being rented to the College for a period of ten years to carry out the project in rural welfare under the auspices of the College's Alumnae As-sociation and financed by a grant from the Ford Foundation. 14. THAT the organization of Council for the year 1954-55 be approved as follows, subject to confirmation by Council: Raymond F.
