Provinse (Ph.D. , University of Chicago) be appointed Director of the Social Research Center for the period 1954-56 under the initial Ford Foundation grant of 8,000; with the understanding that this appointment may be extended in the event of continuance and enlargement of the Center. THAT the Board is aware of an increasing number of visitors in the area of Cairo during the summer months, and is conscious of the importance that the University make some adjustment in its program to establish coverage on the grounds by responsible persons during the entire vacation period. THAT the Board of Trustees adopt the following Minute: The Board of Trustees of the American University at Cairo records once again the importance of the Social Research Center to the University, end affirms its approval of the enlarged scope of the Center as set forth in the revised budget herewith attached (Appendix D). The Board expresses its deep gratitude to The Ford Foundation for the indication of its willingness to support this expanded program. In line with its traditional policy to develop a strong University for the Near East area, the Board hereby indicates its desire to continue the pro-gram initiated under the grant of The Ford Foundation as a permanent unit of the University and declares its intention to make every effort to carry on the function of the Center indefinitely, or as long as the need for it exists. The eventual decision as to the scope and activities of the Center will necessarily depend upon the Board's success in finding the resources to maintain this program. THAT the Board, as requested by Council, confirms the provisional approval of agreements made with the American College 'for Girls for the joint program at the College and the F.A. e. S. leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science In Home Economics, a portion of the University's suburban land be-ing rented to the College for a period of nine years to carry out the project in rural welfare under the auspices of the College's Alumnae As-sociation and financed by a grant from the Ford.
