If AUC is to make its much needed contribution to the development of 7,gypt it must drive its stakes in while the situation is favorable and before there is a hard mould of state controlled nationalism. 3. Five Year Plan. Tho Five Year Plan is of fundamental importance in considering the future development of AUC. This plan was evolved for the purpose of strengthening and making more deensable the University program that is now carried on. Whether or not the building plan is carried out, the Five Year Plan must be implemented if we are to maintain even our present place and reputation in Cairo. The question needs to be studied as to whether the building project will interfere with the Five Year Plan or can be used to stimulate and support it. From the above considerations, it seems clear that more adequate housing must be provided for Lincoln School and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences and that, at the same time, the personnel additions called for in the Five Year Plan must be provided. Alternate Proo- p orals How ccaann these noeds be met ? There seems to be only three possibilities: (1) A temporary building could be placed on the present city site to provide additional classrooms. Such a building would cost approximately $ 50000. (2) The suburban site be sold and a smaller site obtained for Lincoln School in either the Agouza section or in Maadi. In Agouza an adequate school site would cost approximately $ 550,000 and in Maadi a similar site would cost about $ 10,000. (3) The original plan of removing Lincoln School and the Faculty to the Suburban site can be inaugurated and carried out in successive stages.
