That has occurod twice this past year. In each instanco the matter was thoroughly discussed with the Council, which body was in favor of the action. Those items are hero reported in hopeful anticipation of Board approval: 1. The appointment of Mr. Charles Goddos, a graduate student in the SOS ~8 libraríân of the joint libraries of the SOS anl SRC, at a salary of 17777.000 per month, as of January 9, 1956. Mr. Goddos was appointed upon the recommandation of Doan Alan Horton, with the concurrence of Dr. Provinso, Director of the SRC. This expenditure is boing carried this year, and it is hoped, next year, by the SRC budget. The creation of this joint library, which really becomes the nucleus of a graduato studios library and its housing in tho vacated Schoonover apartment, does not prejudice the caso against housing an entire Uni-varsity library, ovontually, in one structura. By the time such a now library structure can be built, the programs of both the SRC and the SOS will be sufficiont to need the space now taken for the joint library. 2. Tho appointment of Mrs. John Provinso as Director of University Social Functions, at a salary of L.2.3O.000 par month, as of December lb, 19b5. Âs inâicāted in the "job description" already in the hands of the Board members, this work is confined to the faculty and administrativo levels, and has nothing to do with students. In order to make it possible for Mrs. Provinso to do wall in improving such functions, a tea sorvice for 150 (or was it 50? - I em writing this report in New York, away from my data) was bought, as well as some trays, linen, etc. Furthermore, the room off tho hall adjacent to the SOS, previously used as a kitchen for the service of social functions in Oriental Hall, w-l.s painted, improved with drawing boards, plumbing, a hot water heater and adequate storage and service cupboards. It is estimated that the costs for all such materials and improvements will be about X1,000.00 and one of our Board members has boon asked to secure this for the University. Word from this member has indinatod that it will bo done. 3. One financial action, recommended by the Council, has already cleared the Finance Committee of the Board, but floods further authorization of the Board as a whole. It is that the L.E.100 annual allowanco to a permanent staff faculty member for each of his school ago children bo made an outright educational grant instead of a contingont amount tó—bo drawn upon by the parorirup to the maximum indicatod.
