i 6•11 Finance Committee - 3 4 ~R,~l THAT Council in Egypt be authorized to proceed during the summer of 1947 (a) with the construction of a simple, non-architectural or builder's bridge over the canal, (b) with the removal of the Native Village, (c) with the making of a workers' road from Pyramid Avenue to the proposed site of Lincoln School; these operations to cost not more than $10,000 inclusive of any architectural fees, the funds to be obtained from the sale of land. THAT when the funds in U.S.A. designated for buildings reach a total of $500,000 including funds derived from the sale of city property, Mr. Larson be engaged to prepare contract drawings and specifications for the new buildings for Lincoln School. Statements of the Buildings Account dated June 15, 1947 are attached as Appendix C and Appendix D. 10. THAT $5,595.75 be charged to the Buildings Fund, representing registration of Suburban Property in the name of the American University at Cairo, per action o' the Finance Committee approved by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on November 8, 1946, with the understanding that Dr. Badeau has assurance from the Egyptian Government stating that all taxes paid in connection with registration of property in the name of the University will be refunded for all properties when construction is begun or other tangible evidence is given that the property will be used for educational purposes. 11. THAT the current budget account be credited with special funds now being held in two accounts: $401.90 in Honoraria Account which Dr. Watson accumulated in America on previous visits for furnishings in Egypt but never expended; and $836.40 in the Pension Account of Dr. Watson, comprising amounts paid by the Sun Life Assurance Company on Dr. Watson's pension at $24.60 monthly for thirty-four months. 12. It was voted THAT on the retirement of Dr. Adams from service, the American University at Cairo Trustees shall share with the United Presby-terian Foreign Board in bringing the annual pension of Dr. Adams up to $1500, in the ratio of 31 parts to the United Presbyterian Board and 9 parts to A.U.C., this last charged to the Philadelphia budget annually. 43. THAT Dr. W. W. Cleland's full personal travel expense returning from Egypt to U.S.A. be paid; that the full freight allowance on the basis of six tons be paid; that his salary be paid for the usual one month after withdrawal, namely to June 3, 1947, and that a further sum of $200 be paid for completion of work in which he is still engaged for A.U.C.; and that he be allowed the usual pension arrangements in accordance with the pension contract. 14. THAT in accordance with recommendation from the Executive Committee, an item of $1500 be included in the budget for 1947-48 to provide for a brief but detailed study of the problem of income production. The Execu-tive Secretary was authorized to proceed with the "pilot" campaign re-commended by Dean Anderson Incorporated, subject to satisfactory reports from references offered by Mr. Anderson. It was understood that the cost of this field test, $1000, would come under the item budgeted for analysis by experts and be a part of the fund-raising study recommended by the Executive Committee.
