MINUTES The Minutes of the twenty-fourth annual meeting of the APPROVED Board held in New York City on October i6, 1942 were approved as circulated. 474. APPROVAL OF The following action by circular taken by the Board in May CIRCULAR ACTION 1943 was approved. THAT Dr. John S. Badeau, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of the American University at Cairo, be given a leave of absence from the University for a period of time commencing on approximately May ist and terminating on approximately August 31., 1943 in order that he may accept a temporary position in the Office of War Information of the. United States Government; all salaries and allowances are to be paid by the Government during the period of this leave. It is understood that the Office of War Information will du everything in its power to secure for Dr. Badeau a passage from the United States to Egypt by air in time for him to be in Cairo on or about September 10th. Further, the reduction of. the American.personn.el un the teaching staff in Egypt has reached such serious ..proportions. that it is to be hoped that Dr.. Badeau will agree to return to.Egypt by any means of transportation available, in case the passage by plane is not forthcoming:by the end of August. 475. REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT Dr. MacCraccen read the main points. in. Dr. Watson' Report as President for 1942-43. The Report had been circulated in advanced (See Appendix A). COMMITTEE uN RE-LIGIOUS LIBERTY The following resolution. was unanimously adopted. THAT the Chairman appoint a committee to.keep in touch with the steps being taken to guarantee religious liberty in Egypt.in the post-war world. The Committee appointed by Dr. MacOracken consisting of Dr. J. T. .Addison, Chair-man, Dr. Douglas Horton and Mr. Samuel, Thorne, was requested to confer with Dr. Decker of the International.dissionary Council and other organizations in order to exert the maximum influence in accomplishing this.important purpose. 477.
