25`l APPENDIX D Personal Contacts With EQ ptian Students and Faculty Children: A phase of the work of the Secretary which is chuck-full of human interest is the job of acting as guardian to the Egyptian students in America and to the children of the faculty who are studying here. Questions of fin-ances are discussed, the choice of a life work, news from Cairo and even the sharing of some of the most intim; to problems of boys and girls thousands of miles from home and parental guidance. Miscellaneous: No attemjt will be made to mention the routine work of placing orders, checking up on freight shipments, the securing of steam-ship tickets, watching the expenditures, preparing and printing leaflets, etc. The time is not far distant when it is going to be necessary to add another man to the staff in America. Yet because of the necessity of keep-ing down the overhead, this should be postponed until we can no longer work efficiently under the present arrangement. In the Lieantime, your Secretary gains a tremendous inspiration from the variety of things he is called upon to do, - one day purchasing a pair of number 11 shoes for a member of the faculty in Egypt, - another day outfitting a faculty son who is leaving for prep school. Again, rescuing an Egyptian who is stranded on Ellis Island. One day, showing a dear old lady that A. U. C. can be a first class college and still remain positively Christian and another day hearing a good friend say that we can count on him for A150,000 for the Endowment Fund. In closing, your Secretary appreciates deeply the splendid cooperat-ion of the members of the Board and he covets your frank criticism of those things that have been done and those that we have left undone that we ought to have done
