ORGANIZATION The Tenth Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the American University at Cairo was called to order by the Chairman, Dr. W. B. Hill, at 9:15 A.M. on Saturday, Oct-ober 27, 1928, at the Yale Club, New York City. The Meeting was opened with prayer by Dr. Demarest. 188. MEMBERS The following members of the Board were present: H.P.Beach, PRESENT W. I. Chamberlain, E. Craig, W.H.S. Demarest, T.J. Gillespie, Jr.; R. W. Harbison, W.B. Hill, G. Iimes, R. Killough, M. G. Kyle, J.H. Lockhart, J.H. MacCracken, and G. L. Robinson; also by invitation, Professor W.A. Eddy, head of the English Department from 1923 to 1928, was present as a guest and able informant. 189. ABSENCES AND EXCUSES was sent to Mr. Lum, 190. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 191. APPOINTMENT OF NO&iINA.TING COLEITTEE Excuses for absence were presented from the following: R.J. Dodds, R.J. Frackelton, E.F. Olcott, F.O. Shane, J.M. Steele, S. Thorne, J. W. Walker. A message of sympathy and his absence through illness was much regretted. The Minutes of the Ninth Annual Meeting held in New York City on October 21, 1927, were approved as typed and cir-culated. The Chairman appointed a Nominating Committee consisting of Messrs. F. O. Shane and W. I. Chamberlain, to serve until the close of the next annual meeting. 192. PRESIDENT'S The Annual Report of the President of the UniverFdty was REPORT read by the Chairman (see Appendix A) . The following recommendation in it was by special vote adopted: THAT we, through our Chairman and Secretary, express to Mrs. Gairdner, to the C.M.S. Mission in Egypt, and to the parent Society in London, our deep sense of loss in the death of Canon Gairdner and our sympathy with them in the withdrawal of this gifted personality from the midst of his work; also the hope that the C.M.S. will soon appoint some other member of its Mission to represent it in the cooperative work of the School of Oriental Studies
