The objective of the thesis is to assess feasibility of an areal ground source heating system when compared to alternatives. The first goal is to evaluate financial competitiveness from both energy operator's and detached house owner's point of views. The second target is to assess capability of the concept to reduce carbon dioxide emissions when heat demand has to be met. The literature review introduces principal components and design principles of the areal ground source heating system. The operational fundamentals of heat pump and heat distribution system are treated in literature review part. The basics of the ground source heat utilisation are covered in this part.
