The implementation of Automated Store Ordering (ASO) has enabled grocery retailers worldwide to attain remarkable improvements in both cost-efficiency and customer service. However, despite the attractiveness of the ASO concept, speciality retailers seem to be lagging behind grocery retailers in the implementation of ASO. The goal of this study is to examine which the prerequisites for ASO are, how well these prerequisites are fulfilled in different segments of speciality retail, and what the potential of ASO is in speciality retail.
