Document: Pacific Southwest Water Plan "Printed Copy" Chapter VIII, August 26 ,1963 page 5Immediate-Action Program It is proposed that immediate authorization for the construction of urgently needed projects be included in legislation implementing the Pacific Southwest Water Plan. Only projects previously investigated and found to be economically justified and financially feasible, as noted before, are intended to be proposed. These include: a. Bridge Canyon Dam, reservoir, powerplant, transmission, and appurtenant facilities. It is intended that the dam be constructed so as to impound water at a normal water-surface elevation of 1,866 feet above mean sea level. b. Marble Canyon Dam, reservoir, powerplant, transmission, and appurtenant facilities. It is intended that the dam be constructed so as to impound water at a normal water-surface elevation of 3,140 feet above mean sea level. The Kanab tunnel diversion is not included as a part of this unit. c. Central Arizona Project, the principal works of which will consist of the Maxwell Dam, reservoir, and power-pumping plant; Buttes Dam and reservoir; Charleston Dam and reservoir; Hooker Dam and reservoir; Granite Reef Aqueduct and pumping plants; Salt-Gila Aqueduct; Tucson Aqueducts and pumping plants; canals, powerplants, transmission facilities, and related water distribution works to provide water to serve present and future service areas by direct delivery and exchange. The Central Arizona Project would be designed to divert, under normal operating conditions, approximately 1,200,000 acre-feet per annum from the Colorado River to central Arizona. d. California Aqueduct Enlargement, with incremental capacity sufficient to deliver approximately an additional 1,200,000 acre-feet per annum to southern California. The principal works are to consist of aqueducts, pumping plants, tunnels, and appurtenant facilities which will deliver water from the Delta area to Perris Reservoir. It is proposed that these works be coordinated with the California State Water Project, now under construction, with parallel or enlarged facilities, whichever would be more economically feasible in particular portions of the system. An additional enlargement of the California Aqueduct through the Tehachapi Mountain reach also is included. This enlargement provides capacity for importing a second unit of 1,200,000 acre-feet under Phase II. e. Southern Nevada Water Supply Project, first stage, the principal works of which will consist of a pumping plant and aqueduct designed to deliver approximately 90,000 acre-feet per annum to the Las Vegas and Eldorado Valleys for municipal and industrial use.
