The Black Rock Bearing Station, located about 7 miles north of Independence, uses about 15 second-feet diverted from a spring-fed stream. The water source at the Black Rock ponds is adequate for planned expansion to a use of 30 second-feet. The total production of the four installations is about 400,000 pounds annually. California's Fillmore and Mojave Fish Hatcheries near Los Angeles derive 7 and 14 second-feet of flow, respectively, from wells.
