California Since 1949, the California Fish and Game Department has invested $1,887,000 on fishery developments related to the inland waters of Southern California. Of the 18 projects developed for fishing, 1 produced a 40-acre warmwater fishing lake in otherwise dry Whittier Narrows flood control reservoir at a cost of $500,000; 16 provided improvements and access to 17 reservoirs totaling 18,000 acres, and to the Salton Sea; and 1 provided dams for the maintenance of flows and general improvements on 22 streams. The Department also invested $1,000,000 in the development of 1,970 quail guzzlers located almost entirely in Southern California.
