with conversion to trout production, it would be operated as a National fish hatchery to supply Pacific Southwest Water Plan reservoirs in Northern California, and other waters in the vicinity. It is not proposed to stock trout in the stream reaches below the main dams of the coastal streams since they support anadromous fish. Production of about 150,000 pounds of trout would be needed. Its operation and maintenance costs for trout production of about 150,000 pounds are estimated at $150,000 annually. The present Federal operation and maintenance costs of $175,000 annually would be applicable to the operation of Helena Hatchery as shown in Table 4. Arizona State Fish Hatchery, Warmwater A hatchery to be operated by the Arizona Game and Fish Department will be necessary to stock suitable project waters in central Arizona with warmwater species of fish, notably catfish, white bass, and tilapia if the expected fishing benefits are to be realized. The unit would produce about 50,000 pounds a year, chiefly catfish. The cost of such a hatchery is estimated at $200,000. The cost of operation and maintenance would be borne by the Arizona Department. New Mexico State Fish Hatchery, Trout A hatchery to be operated by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will be necessary to stock suitable project waters in western New Mexico with trout if expected fishing benefits are to be realized. The hatchery would produce 134,000 pounds of trout a year. The cost of the hatchery is estimated at $500,000. The cost of operation and maintenance would be borne by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. Fish Habitat Replacement On both the considered Trinity River Project and the South Fork Trinity River Project, little natural fish habitat exists within about 20 miles downstream from the damsite. Fisherman access in these 20-mile sections is likewise inadequate.
