38George Elmer was originally from Woolwich, Kent, England. He came to Darwin around 1909. He was a keen musician playing picollo and flute and also made a name for himself as a light weight boxer. For many years Elmer was employed as an usher at the Star Picture Theatre on Smith Street. He also operated a business known locally as "The Hole in the Wall' on Cavenagh Street. In his later years Elmer was a caretaker at the cement stacks at the 20-Mile. He passed away from natural causes at the age of 73 and was found at his camp.
