George Adney

25 years 11 monthsAdney had only been in Australia for a few months prior to enlisting. He left Darwin for Brisbane per 'Montoro' on 17 August 1916 to join his Unit. Adney was demobilised in England in 1919 and travelled to South Dakota with the intention of going farming with his brothers. He returned to Australia and lived in Queensland for eight years prior to his death in 1967 in the Greenslopes Repatriation Hospital, Brisbane. His personal effects were sent to Miss McWalters of Clontarf Beach, Queensland as she was named next of kin. Adney had no living relatives at the time of his death. His death certificate and "Report of the death of an American Citizen" can be found on Ancestry.comAdney embarked from Brisbane with his Unit per HMAT A36 'Boonah' on 21 October 1916. He disembarked at Plymouth on 10 January 1917 and then proceeded to France on 5 April 1917. Adney was wounded in action on 4 May 1917 and rejoined his Battalion on 15 May 1917. He was wounded in action, gunshot wound to left knee, on 4 October 1917 and then rejoined his Battalion on 11 December 1917. Adney was again wounded in action, gunshot wound to head and face, at Etaples on 30 April 1918 and was admitted to the Military Hospital Bethnal Green London on 2 May 1918. On 5 October 1918 he was transferred to the 10 Rifles 9 Battalion and taken on strength in field in France on 29 October 1918.
