The transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) is a round cell neoplasm that predominantly affects the external genital mucosa of male and female dogs. It is contagious, sexually transmitted and has no predilection for race or sex. The extragenital location is usually associated with tumor metastasis. The rate of metastasis is low, varying from 0 to 17% of cases and, when it occurs, it is frequently in the nasal and oral cavity, eyes, skin, regional lymph nodes, liver, spleen, lung, brain, adenohypophysis, muscles, mucosa anal, ovarian, uterus, peritoneum and perianal region indicating tumor malignancy.
