JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS AND HAZARD IDENTIFICATION FOR WORK ACCIDENT PREVENTION IN TRUCKING INDUSTRY

OBJECTIVE: We utilized job safety analysis (JSA) and hazard identification for work accident prevention in a trucking company in our study, which aimed to investigate occupational health risk exposures and assess the safety and health hazards in a Trucking Industry, located in Murray, KY. METHODS: We conducted an observational study which included a walk-through survey, talking to employees and conducting job safety analysis. RESULTS: We identified potential occupational safety and health hazards associated with parts room in the trucking industry including: 1) loading boxes of parts into stock shelves, 2) using hydraulic hose cutters, 3) loading/storing batteries in battery cabinet, and 4) working long hours sitting in computer. DISCUSSION: Several high-risk areas were identified from JSA and hazard identification of the working processes, especially slip, trip and fall hazards from poor housekeeping, overhanging boxes creating trip/fall hazard, trip/fall hazard from loading and unloading parts, and possible hand injuries from hydraulic hose cutters. All workers were strongly recommended to follow proper work procedures and use proper personal protective equipment in any working processes. We recommend that the results from the job hazard analysis performed in this study be used to create an action plan for reducing occupational health hazards in the trucking industry
