Texture in Translation: Thematic aspects of English and Greek Texts

The effects of translation on thematic aspects of text structure are examined by comparing an English expository text to its rendering into Greek by five different translators. Divergence among the texts is found in punctuation, the placement of adjuncts and clause word order. It is argued that textual considerations motivate the translators’ choices and a tentative model is proposed in order to describe the process of translation
