Hancock Timber Resource Group, a unit of John Hancock Financial Services of Boston, yesterday announced that it has purchased 23,481 acres of woodlands near Bethel from International Paper Co. Hancock Timber owns nearly 1.8 million acres of timberland in the United States and Canada, including 285,750 acres in New England, and is the nation\u27s largest owner and manager of timberland assets for public pension funds, endowments, foundations and other institutional investors.
