IP is also selling off nonstrategic lands to timber interests to help amortize its $6.2 billion merger with Champion International. Pat Flood, IP\u27s Northeast region operations manager, says the company plans to sell 130,000 acres of its 1.4 million-acre land base in Maine, and about 90,000 acres have already been sold. In 1998, IP sold 185,000 acres to The Nature Conservancy for $35 million, and the Land for Maine\u27s Future Board is ready to close on the $1 million plus East Ridge project
