The Lethbridge Community College Kodiak women’s team will be playing the defending Canadian Champs from Calgary the SAIT Trojans, on September 28th at the Tom Karren Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. the Kodiak women have players from B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. Local players are from Raymond, Cardston, Lethbridge, Coalhurst, Picture Butte and Taber. Brad Karren is the head coach of the Kodiaks and is assisted by Ron Strate. Admission at the door. Monies will be donated to High School Basketball. ****** Just a Reminder!! Elementary School pictures will be taken Wednesday October 6th, that is also the day the Book Fair starts. October 7th will be the first Parent - Teacher Conference and it will be held from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. There will be a time scheduled for each child. The library is now open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the library also has a parent resource section which the public is welcome to access. Janeth Heath is the new librarian. Conrad Boehme is the family/school liaison counsellor. Contact file school off if you feel that you would like his assistance. Each student has ah agenda, it is used for dual purposes: an organizational tool for the child and a communication tool between home and school. Volleyball boys and girls teams have been selected and have already played some games. Mr. Hansen is coaching the boys and Mr. Rollingson is coaching the girls. A "Christmas Classic" is being planed for Dec. 27 thru 29th, made up of 16 teams of girls & boys. Magrath Public Library September 22, 1999 Currently on display at the library is a FIBRE ARTS show from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. These 14 pieces, consisting of 3-dimensional and flat works, will be with us until the end of October. On Tuesday, September 28th, from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the library, Kathy Ahmed will be giving a rubberstamping demonstration for making scrapbook pages, cards and other items. The 1st Magrath Sparks will be accepting registration of girls aged 5 & 6, (must be 5 by registration day) Sparks will be meeting on Tuesdays immediately after school. ****** On Sept. 11, Alan Wilde, Erin Wilde, Laura Wilde, John Leishman and Cam Smith took part in the Waterton Glacier Relay. They covered the 23 km five-leg course with a time of 1.55.33. They placed 2nd in their category and each received a medal. Attention Magrath Citizens The mural that was painted for the Centennial program has found a home. It will be permanently hung on the west wall of the Tom Karren Gym. To protect and preserve it, we are doing a fund raiser so the mural can be covered with a plexi-glass, the cost is around $1500.00. Would you, your family, or business be willing to donate? You can donate a small amount or you can buy a panel for $150. A plaque will be mounted on the mural with names of those who have donated. Afton leaves to mourn her children: Gean Wheeler, Margarette (Jim) Low, Joseph (Catharine) Keeler, Lovina (Lowell) Frodsham, Ruth Ann (Bruce) Johnson, Karl (Norma) Keeler. She is also survived by her sisters Allie Robinson and Beatrice Harker. A Funeral Service was held on Friday September 17, 1999 with interment in the Magrath Cemetery. ****** Mrs. Jennie V Harding passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at the age of 91 years. She had eqjoyed living in Magrath for the past four years. She leaves to mourn her children: Blaine (Martha) Harding, Joan (George) Taylor, Glenn (Loyia) Harding, David (Gail) Harding, Keith (Kathleen) Harding, Brenda (Jerry) Peoples, 36 grandchildren and 49 great­grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Taber on Saturday September 18, 1999, with interment in the Taber Memorial Garden. The family of Jennie V Harding would like to thank our dear friends here in Magrath for your many acts of kindness, the visits, the food, the expressions of love have brought us alot of comfort. Special thanks to the Magrath Third Ward Relief Society for their help with the luncheon. Special thanks to Dr. Regehr for looking after mother these past four years. If your player gets hurt, tough luck. * Each month a top 10 list will be printed in the paper. * Player’s teams may switch prior to the start of the season or during the regular season but are still part of your team. * The hockey pool is for the regular season only. * The Prairie Scene Hockey Pool is not affiliated withe NHL. * Entries must be postmarked no later than Oct 3,1999. * No trades. The purpose of the year is to foster awareness of the importance of seniors' roles in society. We would like to help the community be more aware of the seniors living at the Terrace. We will be featuring two of our residents weekly, so that you may become better acquainted with them. This week we salute: Amy Ellen Rich Clark Sykes Amy was born in Sumas Washington. She is the daughter of Martha Elmira Hughes & Bert J. Rick. Amy has 2 sisters. Amy is a convert to the church. Site was married to her 1st husband for 4 years. While married to her husband they joined the church & were sealed in the Cardston Temple. Amy's 2nd husband died 20 years ago after 46 years of marriage. Amy has 5 children, 3 of them living in Edmonton. Amy loved to sew, play the organ for church & choirs, & conduct music. Amy told me her not so favorite food is broccoli & that the food at the Terrace is wonderful. Amy has been in rehab for over 2 months. She had a hip replacement & a broken leg. Amy is amazing, always cheerful, makes others feel better just by being around her. We really enjoy her positive attitude & how she is so willing to help others & get involved. Don Page Don was born in Careveil Sask. His father William Henry Page was a farmer, his mother's name was Marcy Grace. In Don's earlier years he farmed along side his father on their farm in Careveil. In 1968, Don took an interest in race horses. He stayed in this Held until 1995. He was a successful trainer of many race horses, 1 of them boarded in Alberta. Don has 1 sister in Winnipeg & 1 brother in British Columbia. Don enjoyed playing baseball & hockey in his younger years. Don has lived at the Terrace for a couple of years. He is still very involved with horses & loves to talk to us about them. Don is a very quiet person.
