I' li II II ll h I II II ll L SPORTS HOCKEY Tournament Losses Test Midget Chiefs The winning record (4-0-1) for the Magrath/Raymond Chiefs was put on the line at the Taber invitational hockey tournament. The team needed to be exposed to a higher calibre than what the regular league play had offered. Playing the AA Okotoks Oilers & Calgary Suns was character building. The Chiefs lost 9-5 and 7-4. The Chiefs had a lead in both games but could not sustain the pressure. “The difference at this AA level of . hockey is the depth of the team skills and the ability to put out three strong lines,” said the coaching staff. The team raised their level of play and showed that we have a strong game and a good system on the ice. The Chiefs played especially well down low and created a lot of chances. A berth in the C Final of the tournament led to a hard fought 5-3 loss to a pumped up team from Coaldale. Coaldale had been outscored 20-1 in their pool before ending up against the Chiefs. Two key injuries and one player sick hurt our chances but we still managed, to outshoot them 40-31. Their goal ■tender was named player of the game, “he simply stoned us and stole the game,” said Head Coach Tim Lauscher. ........... - FOOTBALL SAMFA MVP Honours The Southern Alberta Minor Football Association held their awards banquet last week. In the Chinook Conference awards were given to the following Magrath players: Defensive Player - Cole Barnett Quarterback - Raye Wilde Offensive All-stars - Jordan Smart |i Defensive. All-stars - Mitch Blackmer Also, the Magrath Wolverines were named as the Most Sportsmanlike Team. Congratulations to all on a successful season. Confirmation of reservations at Luigi’s Restaurant for the Christmas Supper on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at 5 p.m. DELLA ANNIE HENDERSON HOLLADAY beloved wife of Allen Holladay, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the age of 86 years. She was born October 20, 1916 in Sterling, Idaho. She moved with her parents to Purple Springs. After the death of her mother, her father moved his small family to the Magrath area where Della received her education and she met Allen. They were married on September 29, 1937 in the Alberta Temple. They spent 65 wonderful years together. Besides her husband Allen, she is survived by her two children, Roger (Cheryl) Holladay and Mary (Barry) Tollestrup, her sister Lillian (George) Dudley, and three brothers, Ollen (Ethel) Henderson, Lester (Loa) Henderson, and Hyrum (Shirley) Henderson, six grandchildren, Trevor (Celena) Holladay, Jason Holladay, Troy and Scott Tollestrup, Tammy (Deon) Bennett, Jackie (Karl) Karst, and five great grandchildren. Della was predeceased by her parents Oswald and Callie Henderson, her step mother Frieda Senn, a brother Waldo Henderson and three sisters Nellie Bly, Martha Purdy and Betty Gillett. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Funeral Services were held on Monday, December 2, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Magrath Stake Chapel, with Bishop Shane Gurney officiating. Interment followed in the Magrath Cemetery. 5. Meat pies using turkey meat to be made in January 2003­New Business: 1. I would like to thank all the people who are involved with our story hour at the Magrath Public Library, with­out your help there would not be a story time. We have finally finished doing our client surveys for this year. I would also like to thank our patrons for being understanding and supportive while we were doing our surveys over the last few weeks. WATER ACCOUNTS Water Accounts with a Balance Exceeding Six Months Will Be Transferred to the Property Owner’s Tax Account If Not Cleared by December 31, 2002. Landlords of Rental Properties Are Reminded That Policy States That Landlords Are Responsible for Water Accounts of Their Rental Properties and Overdue Accounts Will Be Transferred to the Tax Account. 2. WATER PREPAYMENT PLAN The water prepayment plan with the applicable one month discount is available to Town residential properties during the month of JANUARY 2003. The 2002 water account must be paid in full before one can take advantage of the prepayment plan. 3. TAX ACCOUNTS Property owners are reminded that there will be a 14% penalty levied against all unpaid taxes if they are not cleared by December 31, 2002. Payments must be received in the Town Office by 5 p.m. December 31, 2002. 4. TAX MONTHLY PAYMENT PLAN Those who wish to enter into a monthly tax payment agreement for 2003 taxes should contact the Town Office by January 2003. This plan is avaihble to property owners during the month of TANUARY ONLY to those whose taxes are in a CURRENT STATUS. This program is not available after January 31, 2003.
