Our goal is to expand the music orogram beyond the outstanding Marching Band that already exists. The "Spirit of Alberta" March­ing Band will have new uniforms this year, thanks to previous fund raising support. Our emphasis now will be the purchase of instruments and supplies for the develop­ment of the concert and jazz band programs. The School Division has committed funds over the next four years for this purpose. By matching those funds through our own efforts, we can have a fully eq­uipped concert and jazz band program with-, in that time. This would include some of the essential but expensive instruments that students do not normally supply such as bassoons, oboes,' French horns and bass and contra-bass clarinets. The soon to be completed moderniza­tion of the band room will provide one of the finest music facilities'of any high school in the province, but a sound system could not be included in the plans. This will need to be provided by our own eff­orts and would include a recording and playback system which is an essential teach­ing tool. A very pretty mid-summer wedding was solemnized in the Seattle, Temple, Wash­ington, when Cynthia Lynn Anderson, daugh­ter of Jim and Charlotte Anderson of Mag­rath and James Douglas Heninger, son of , Art and Donna Heninger of High River, were united in marriage. The wedding took place on Wednesday, August 16th, 1989. Following the ceremony a family luncheon was served at the Robins Woods Cabanna. Saturday, August 26th, a Family Luncheon was served in the Magrath L.D.S. Stake Centre with Ida Taylor and Grethe Anderson in charge. Bishop Greg Strong offered the blessing. Dean 7 Anderson was Master of Cere­monies for an enjoyable program. The toast to the bride was given by.Jamie Anderson, brother of the bride, with the groom responding. Richard Farrelly proposed the toast to the. bridesmaids. Following the luncheon, a Calling Reception honoring the bride and groom was held. ' Greeting the guests were Bert and Norma Zobell, Shelby Anderson and Clinton Anderson. Cindy Heninger and Tanya Anderson attended the guest register. Receiving the bride and groom were their parents, Jim and Charlotte Ander­son, Art and Donna Heninger together with the bridal attendants - Matron of honor Joanne Anderson, bridesmaids Shelly Heninger, Penny Smith and Sandra Anderson; best man Richard Farrelly and groomsmen Graham Mayr, Dan Anderson and Jamie Anderson. A lovely buffet luncheon was served with Bessie Cook in charge of the kitchen arrangements. The hall was beautifully decorated under the direction of Elizabeth Strong, Debbie Cook and Lori Morrison. The attractive wedding cake was made and decorated by the bride's aunt, Marlene Euteneier. The happy couple will make their home in Edmonton Where the bride is on the nurs­ing staff of the University Hospital and the groom is attending the University of Alberta. Although school has begun for another term and children are less likelv to be as involved with helping with the harvest, there are some that will be operating farm machinery after school and on weekends. The inexper­ienced must realize safety is for their own good. Set a good example for your child by eliminating yard hazards. Tractors are the machines most often involved in fatal farm accidents. Mainten­ance of machinery should be completed before peak season. When repairs are done in haste because of a breakdown during plowing or combining, accidents often ensue. Moving parts may continue to rotate for three" ° minutes after the power has been shut off. Many lives and limbs have been lost by dis­regarding this fact. In addition, loose clothing can easily wrap people up in mach­inery. Operating machiner)’, especially tractors, within safe limitation is essen­tial. Tractors overturn very easily due to their high centre of gravity. Drive with care on steep slopes and uneven fields. Keep the front end loader low, taking extra precaution when the bucket is loaded. Trac­tors flipping over backwards are caused by hitching loads above the drawbar. Farm hazards and safety precautions are often not dealt with. After a long, weary day, too much energy is required to check the farmyard for obstacles or child­ren that are in your path. Avoid stress­ful and worrysome situations by educating those around you to follow farm safety rules. Have a safe and rewarding harvest. Magrath students trouped back to classes Monday, September 11th, enjoying a few days extra holidays more than their neighboring counterparts. The extra "reprieve" was due to the extensive renovations and construction to the Magrath School, making it "almost brand new’'. In a News Release to Parents by Prin­cipal Neil Nordquist, he announced several new staff members this term. Mrs. Kay Court is teaching both E.C.S. classes; Mrs. Calee Toly and Mrs. Margie Schoepp are teaching Grade I; Mrs. Kenna Asplund Grade III; Mrs. Suzan Szewaga - Home Econ­omics and Mr. Holt Zaugg - Junior High Special Education. Two exchange students are attending classes in Magrath this year. Simon Scott from Australia who is staying with the John Ferguson family and Haldor Stephan- son of Iceland will spend the year with the Monte Thomson family. Did you see any colorful balloons in the sky Sunday? The Magrath United Church Sunday School had registration and their annual Balloon Launch Sunday morning. When the ballons were released they sored heaven­ward and with a north wind blowing, they were heading for the south country.
