It is possible and feasible fo* we in Magrath to have this excellent T.V, reception of channels that have little or no commercials, cover all the sporting events you want and most current movies. To move ahead with this project it is necessary to determine.how many people * in Magrath and immediate area would be willing to have this service. There would be an initial cost to get it going but this cost will vary depending on how many people are interested. The more members we get the lower the cost can be. If you are interested, please attend a public meeting to be held in the Drop In Center on TUESDAY, MARCH 16th, 7:30 p.m. If you find you cannot attend this meeting, information can be obtained from any of the following committee members: Elden Christerisen, Bill Heninger, Jack Fox or Rodney Bly. Ph. 758-3570 WATERCOLOR & OIL PAITING EXHIBITION Residents of Magrath and area are invited to attend an exhibition of paintings by Elaine Dow Fleming, to be held at the Art Studio, 521­4th Ave. S., Lethbridge. Opening: Thursday, March 18th, 7-9:30 p.m. The show will continue to March 31. Elaine is the daughter of Bert and Zelpha Dow, long-time school teachers in Magrath. She grew up in Magrath and spent her teen years playing in the family dance band. Many Southern Albertans will remembe: with nostalgia, dancing and jitter­bugging to the music of the "Dows Rhythmers". , After high school she attended BYU and U of C, studying art and music and subsequently becoming a teacher. She began painting serious­ly in 1969 and by 1975 was having annual one-person shows in Calgary galleries. Since then, galleries from major centres in Alberta, B.C. and Ontario.have been carrying her paintings. Last June she was one of a few Alberta artists participat­ing in a show at the National Art Centre, Ottawa. Her oil of Old*Chief has bung in the Magrath School for a number of years and in 1981 she presented the Town of Magrath with a watercolor which hangs in the Town Library. This exhibition includes recent Alberta and B.C. landscapes and is her first in the Lethbridge area. Elaine would like anyone interested to drop in and see her art and say hello. She will be in .attendance opening night only, March 18th. Show to March 31st. On Thursday, March 4th, 1982, the Magrath-Cardston Association for the Handicapped was organized and officers were elected at a meeting in the Magrath High School. The purpose of the new Assoc­iation is to affirm the dignity of the handicapped citizens of Cardston and Magrath area and work toward the provis­ion of services to enhance their full potential. The executive members are Bernice Sillito, President; Will Mueller,. IVice President; Jill Wakefield, Sec. Treàs. with Dr. Nèldon .Hatch, Rev. Robt. Schwab, Marilyn Folsom, Heikki Ojala, Alma Davies and Carol Lowry as directors. Phone CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWS On Saturday, March 6th, we were pleaser to entertain Mr. Jim Hann from the Alberta Wheat Pool and Mr. Doug Card from C.J.O.C. who led a party of eight who Had attended Ag Expo. They were met at the new Elevator and toured through the building with Neal Bourne and Wallace Baker as guides. From there to the Ice Cream Palace where a del­icious lunch was served by Pat Carter mic staff. After lunch the group toured the new Treasury Branch with Mrs. Sue Kado a :• guide. On leaving, each one on the tour-received a Treasury Branch cap and a pen from Manager Sue. Then to the Senior Cit­izens' Drop In Center to tour the bui ~ including the Museum. Dr. Parkinson has performed throughout the U.S., Mexico, in England, and has been guest soloist with numerous symphonies, including the Guadalajara Symphony, Utah Symphony and Chicago Civi Orchestra. In 1981 he was invited to debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York where he was very well received. He studied at Brigham Young University, then later, in 1975, at Indiana University, he was granted the degree Doctor of Music with high distinct ion. .Also that year he was awarded a Fulbright-Hays grant for further study in London, England. In 1977 he earned a post­graduate Diploma from the Juilliard School in New York City. Dr. Parkinson is en outstanding mo/ic ian and teacher, and is presently servar­as Coordinator of Piano Studies at College in Rexburg, Idaho. Some topics that should be discussed are: 1. "Cost" - how calculated? e.g. cow calf pair, billed monthly, or by acre or by season. 2. "Carrying Capacity" - determine how manv acres is required to feed a cow and calf for a given period. 3. The maximum number cf head that will be permitted to graze kstocking rate) — this protects the land owner from overgrazing - also allows sufficient crazinc for the cattle owner. 4. "Length of Grazing Season" - determine when cattle are permitted to arrive and when they must leave. 5. Determine who will be responsible to check cattle. 6. Who supplies salt and mineral. 7. Who maintains fences, and who PaYsz if additional fencing required. 8. Will cattle run separate or in a mixed herd. 9. etc. After you have determined the terms of the agreement and each party is aware of the individual rights, then>one can negotiate and suitable agreement decided on. And for the protection of both parties, a legal contract should be signed. Too often, only the question of cost is asked. Things that tand to influence the cost of pasture rental are: 1. Price of cattle, grain, bay and the local abundance of alternat­ive feed sources.
