REPORT VEHICLE CHECK - large numbers of vehicles travel Alberta's streets and high­ways while equipped with faulty or inoperative equipment. This condition becomes most noticeable at this time of year because hazardous winter driving conditions take their toll of vehicle equipment. There seems to be a reluct­ance on the part of many motorists to voluntarily replace such equipment. Starting April 1st and continuing through to the end of the month, the RCMP ’ will step up the grogram to stop motor vehicles and do a thorough equipment check. These checks are designed to complement the car check campaign spons­ored by the Canada Safety Council and the Alberta Safety Council which will operate during the week of April 2—8 with the theme "Care, Savings and Safety for efficient, economical and safe driving". Written warning or prosecution summonses will be issued if violations are found. Should violations on the vehicle be excessive, provisions exist to have the vehicle removed from the road until it is repaired. The R.C.M.P. will also be paying special attention to driving offences such as failing to signal lane changes or turns, improper parking of vehicles on the highway, drinking drivers and other liquor related offences. "Vehicle Check" will be in effect until the end of April 1981. Motor vehicle operators are encouraged to avoid prosecution by checking their vehicle equipment such as horns, lights, windshield wipers, brakes, glass, turn indicators, etc. and replacing or repairing defective parts. Motorists are also encouraged to keep safe driving practices always in mind; to drive courteously, and in that way avoid accident or prosecution. The only objectives of the R.C.M.P. are to reduce the accident rate in Alberta and to save lives.■ We are asking for everyone’s co-operation. ** There was one break in, three thefts under $200, two wilful damage', one indecent act and one trespassing complaints reported to Magrath Detachment for the month of March, 1981. Mrs. Beres Grade One Class performed "Wait Till You’re Older" accompanied by Mrs. Elizabeth Davies, and also recited "Sandpile Town". Mrs. Davies Grade Two Class presented "Tom Edison" an operetta. Barbara Johnson sang "You Light Up My Life" accompanied by Sherri Jensen. Kathleen Harker directed a Clown dance by students Briana Rüstige, Elizabeth Veale, Sarah Strong, Kris Anderson, Tanya Anderson and Tammi Bly; a Magician Act "Now You See It, Now You Don’t" by Allan Nilsson assisted by Sherri Bennett; Ranae Rasmussen, Michelle Strong and Stacy Harker performed a dance; Shauna Taylor rendered a piano solo; Randy Marsden, Greg Davies, Devon Rasmussen and Craig Harley entertained with a Combo; "Animal.Crackers" a dance by Joann.Taylor, Andrea Harker^ Heather Harris Mary Dudley, and Ginger Passey .directed by Kathleen Harker; a vocal number by Elders Able and Browning and the John Norton family; "Homework" a Festival Youth Choir number directed by Elizabeth Davies with choreography by Steve Brockway and Alma Davies accompanist.
